Our History
As I write this short history of CNE, Inc. I just got off the phone with my first business partner from the early 1980's. At that time we couldn't have been more excited than Watson discovering the telephone when my former partner and I hooked two CP/M computers together through a jury-rigged serial cable and typed words on one computer's keyboard only to see them appear on the other computer's screen. We've come a long way, and yet...
The excitement surrounding the desire to communicate through technology is felt everyday by each of us at CNE. Starting in 1992, the Center for Networks & Education, Inc. was formed after a prior technology firm HQ Computing (founded by partners Hess and Quickel) was dissolved. CNE quickly became the moniker for this technology firm focused initially on delivering geographic mapping and analytic services to the retail, healthcare, and insurance industries. CNE's partnership with Strategic Mapping ended with Strategic Mapping's acquisition by two competitors. By that time, CNE had forged a strong and focused relationship with Crystal Decisions, the maker of Crystal Reports®, the world's leading Windows-based report design tool.
Extending the experience CNE gained from integrating Crystal Reports® into geographic information systems (GIS's), our partnership with Crystal Decisions led us to acheive Education Partner of the Year status in 1998 and 2001. Founder and President, Herb Hess, served for one year as Chairperson of the Partner Advisory Council. Shortly after, Business Objects acquired Crystal Decisions integrating the most valuable components of each company into the world's most successful software company focused solely on Business Intelligence. CNE continues to thrive as a partner to this new industry leader, offering solution development, education, migration, and implementation services which provide businesses and organizations with the resources and capabilities to profitably deploy Business Intelligence.
